What are phobias?
Phobia is the intense experience of fear or anxiety which may be associated with either a specific object or situation or a perceived threat. This experience of intense fear or anxiety occurs when the person is exposed to the particular object or situation with which the fear is associated with. It may also occur if the threat is perceived.
How Does a Phobia Differ from Fear?

Symptoms of phobias
Symptoms of Phobia can be physiological as well as a psychological in nature.
1)Physiological symptoms would include:
• sweaty palms,
• tremors in hands or legs,
• dry throat etc.
2)Psychological symptoms include:
• blanking out,
• fumbling for words,
• perceiving the threat or danger in a more intense manner than it actually is.
Causes of phobias
• an experience of a traumatic event(being stuck somewhere, or being attacked by someone or something)
• informational transfer e.g.(reading a news report of a traumatic event or narration of a traumatic event by another person),
• observing others going through a traumatic event
• an unexpected panic attack in a to be feared situation.

Phobias are an excessive and irrational fear reaction. If you have a phobia, you may experience a deep sense of dread or panic when you encounter the source of your fear. The fear can be of a certain place, situation, or object. Unlike general anxiety disorders, a phobia is usually connected to something specific. The impact of a phobia can range from annoying to severely disabling. People with phobias often realize their fear is irrational, but they’re unable to do anything about it. Such fears can interfere with your work, school, and personal relationships. Along with this, people who have phobias also have to deal with the intense fear, anxiety and helplessness that they are haunted with.
